where? where does he get his nutrients from? it's not like he can hunt deathclaws or put a bucket to collect irradiated rain. Virgil still wants to carry on with being a scientist and he can't do that in a dirty cave, he needs shelter and proper tools. 
You are the director of the institute, Virgil has no reason to hide from courses (I brought X6 with me and he liked it when I helped Virgil). A Human cannot live in the glowing sea. Return to Kells to complete the quest and he’ll reward you with a Power Armor Helm.Request : Turn the human Brian Virgil to a unique settler that u can send to any of ur commonwealth settlementġ)After siding with the institute and curing Virgil's disease I expected he'd ask me to help him find a new home or to bring him back to the institute to be with his colleagues and friends.īut nooooo, he just says thank you and continues on living inside a cave with a rusty robot. 
If you kill him you can obtain Virgil’s Rifle, or you can steal it with the Pickpocket perk Rank 3. You can decide to kill him or let him live. Once you have the quest, go talk with Virgil in the Rocky Cave. If you did cure him, you can still kill him or let him go. If you destroyed the Institute without giving Virgil the serum that would have cured him (see The Glowing Sea), he will want to kill you, making killing him an easy decision. How Virgil will react when you see him depends what you ‘ve done with The Institute. What happens if you don’t give Virgil the serum? Brian Virgil has chosen this cave as his refuge, as it is deep within the Glowing Sea and out of the Institute’s grasp. The rocky cave (also known as Virgil’s laboratory) is a location in the Commonwealth in 2287.
